Title: [Invalid]: groups with coppermine bridged to phpbb3
Post by: Halfhidden on March 12, 2008, 08:52:28 PM
Hi, I seem to have a problem creating an additional group in Coppermine. Because I'm bridged to phpbb3 I didn't expect to see the "create new group" button in the group category in admin of Coppermine. And it wasn't there anyway. I created a new group with coppermine privileges in phpbb3 and assigned a user to the group. The group works exactly as expected in the phpbb3 forum but the group hasn't populated through to Coppermine. I have re-logged in the user to help trigger the process and ran the bridge manager once more, still no group. Any further advise would be greatfully accepted.
Regards,
Steff

You need to enable 'post based groups' when you bridge if you want the groups to be reflected in Coppermine.

Hi Nibbler,
I ran the bridge again and no options are available. I'm using a third party bridge (so not the Coppermine bridge manager). I looked through my notes and can see that the option was set to no for post groups. According to the authors notes on the bridge I can change this option later if required but I cannot see where this is because the options are greyed out. Obviously I should be talking to him as this is a phbb3 problem I guess.
Thanks for your time again, always appreciated.
Regards,
Steff

You need to disable then bridge and then re-enable it with the new options.

Hi Nibbler, Tried disconnecting the bridge and re bridging but the app simply hides the options saying that they had previously been configured. It seems that the author was trying to make the app fiddle proof, but in doing so preventing genuinely needed changes to take place.
I'll email the author, but I'm not confident of a reply. If not I'll have to abandon the project. Thanks for your help once more.
Fell free to close this thread down.

Steff

I checked out the phpbb3 forum and others have have the same problem. I have resolved this issue myself by using breaking the bridge and bridging to phpbb2 (although I don't have a phpbb2 forum), breaking that and bridging to phpp3 and then taking your original advice and enabling post based groups which was still only available under the phpbb2 bridge option.
Anyway, I wouldn't recommend this drastic bridging and re bridging to different versions, but in this case it worked well.

Thanks for your patients,
Regards,
Steff

I hope you can see now why we can not officially support the third-party contributed phpbb3 bridge: it doesn't meet our standards. That's one of the reasons why it goes unsupported here.
That's why I marked this thread as "invalid". Unsupported means exactly what the name suggests: if you have issues with your phpbb3 bridge, ask them somewhere else, not here.

Yep point taken. I'll make sure it's a valid question in future.
