Title: [Solved]: Spam Registration with 1.4.16 & Captcha plugin
Post by: phl on March 27, 2008, 07:50:06 PM
Hi everybody,

I have spam registration issue.
My coppermine gallery is up to date (1.4.16) and I have recently installed the captcha 3.0 plugin for CPG.

Anyway I still receive unwanted registrations.

The plugin is well displayed on the registration page.
To test it, I tryed to register a new user by making a mistake in the input text field. The plugin works well, my registration was refused.

Any ideas to avoid those spam registrations ?

Thank you !

If the captcha works then there is a chance all the spam registrations are being done manually and not automated, however the automation is still possible.

In that case if it is becoming a big problem you may want to set it so all registrations must be approved first by yourself before they are allowed to login. Besides that I can't really think of any other option.

I don't think that spam registrations are manually done. It would be a strange habit and even more a total waste of time for the author.

Anyway ... is there a way to strenghten the Captcha plugin ? For example with more complex pictograms ?

Read my reply on the captcha plugin announcement thread (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,36319.msg248913.html#msg248913).

Thank you Joachim.
I see the point.

I will now, just as you do, consider the captcha module as a way to reduce spam registrations and unwanted comments.

Thanks
