I have got my subdomain (the first) pointed to my directory (the second)
On request from some club members, I want to set up a Bulletin board so that my club can discuss as well as use Coppermine.
I've read the documentation but have got concerned about 5.2.1 Authentication by Cookie
To avoid problems, where would be a good place to set up the Bulletin board?
Also - have I left it too late to do integration?
That setup is OK. Set your BBS up wherever you see it fit (subdomain or not). I suggest setting it up in http://karamatt.com/forum/ and making that subfolder a separate subdomain as well (http://forum.karamatt.com/). That's in fact the same setup we use here, with the forum and the gallery being bridged and the forum residing in a sub-domain.

You only have 25 pics, so it's not too late imo. You will have to start over as far as your user registrations are concerned. From the docs (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#integrating_users_start):

You might want to take a look at the preliminary docs for cpg1.5.x: the bridging mechanism won't change from cpg1.4.x to cpg1.5.x, so the explanations there apply to cpg1.4.x as well. I really appreciate your advice and your time
I'm concerned about how much admin/maintenance time might be required trying to keep the two softwares (CPG & SMF) upgraded & linked... it looks a complicated job.....perhaps for such a small group of people I might just keep the two unbridged? not a question I'm expecting an answer to though! I'm just musing out "loud".... :)
it's a balancing act because I have a full time work-job and two young boys so I'm not prepared myself to spend excessive time on Admin.... something I need to work out myself :D
Expect upgrades of coppermine every 3 to 6 months. Same thing applies for your BBS usually. The upgrade should be done in less than 20 minutes. It's up to your decision, but I'd advice you to do it - it's a much smoother user experience with the two apps bridged.
thanks Joachim - I would really like that - hence my interest - what scares me though is that I would have to rebuild all the albums and users each and every time I needed to do a rebridge... :o
You don't have to do that. Updating is a breeze. Basically, you download the new package, unzip it, transfer the unzipped files from the package to your server, run update.php in your browser and you're done. Please read up the docs - there is a section in it that explains updating. Of course you don't have to re-upload all your images to your server when updating - that would be overkill and totally silly. An upgrade is not a fresh install.
