Title: problems understanding album hierarchy
Post by: dazthephot on February 28, 2011, 04:42:23 PM
hi there, i've read the documentation so many times now that i have gone word blind am i'm just not getting it.

my aim is to creat a seperate login for each of my clients to access their assigned albums. which i think i've done.
i have created each client as a category.
they all have seperate access but when they login, they can see the other categories (but not access them) which means they can see my other clients.

can you help me understand as i'm building it first before i let my clients loose on it.

test account on gallery is:   www.dcpics.co.uk/cpg/index.php    UN:  temp     PW:  password

thanks

That's intended / expected behavior. There's a config setting that hides 'private' (in your case that means not accessible/restricted) albums. I'd suggest to disable the display of hidden albums and just use one category for all clients.

thanks, i did initially think of doing it that way but then over complicated it myself.

afterall, there is really only one category - Client Galleries.  i will try again, can't any harm eh.

ok so i've created one category - "recent assignments"

i've created a group for each of my clients and using album manager i've assigned the appropriate album to that group. but i can't seem to find reference in the config to make the album private nor disable the display of hidden albums.

because of this each registered user when logged in can see the other clients albums in the one category.

ok found the toggle in config, i find a google search is easier than forum search.  But it's still allowing open access. strange

What's your actual issue? Visitors needs to login to have access to your gallery.

Sorry for not making myself clear.

I would like my coppermine gallery organised in such a way that:

there is one category called "Recent Assignments", when a client logs in using their unique UN and PW all they see is albums of their images that they commisoned me for.  I don't want them to see any of my other clients or albums.

I've kinda got there but now there is an extra level i.e another folder called "whatever their username is" that they have to click to get to their own albums and i don't want that. (if it can be helped)

please use access:   UN  riverside   PW  riversideadmin

thank you

Just don't create the albums in the 'user category' (that's the default category which behaves a little bit different than all other categories), but create a new category with the category manager. There you can create (or move your existing) albums and set the permissions accordingly.
