The site's main user wasn't able to upload images, he said it was telling him that the file format was not recognized (jpg), even when he tried multiple images.
I upgraded to the newest version and I am able to upload images and everything works, except for all these warning/notice messages.

You are still using the CPG1.4.x build which has been out of support for 2 years now. Please upgrade to CPG1.5.x. In all likelihood this will also fix your problems.
I upgraded to the latest stable version. I just upgrade to the latest and it just killed everything even when I try to revert to the old version. Lovely.
I just reverted to our old version, which I believe is 1.3.
upgraded from 1.3 -> 1.5 instead of 1.3 -> 1.4 -> 1.5.
Does the same thing after upgrade. "There was an error while processing a database query"
Reverting to 1.3 again.
Please read the upgrade instructions carefully. Please note that upgrading from 1.3 to 1.5 is not supported. Bed go to 1.4 first then from there to 1.5. Remember to run update.php at each stage.
