Post by: one50bpm on August 09, 2004, 02:59:57 PM
Does the The album directory need to be on teh same server?
because it doesnt seem to work, when its on a different server and the folders dont show up in batch.

and also...

im trying to host the files of gallery on a different server than the mysql what do i put in the mysql host while installing?

The database can be on a different server.

But the albums folder must be withing the same server as the coppermine install, unless you're a coding genius.  I've never seen a successful attempt to do this.

You have to put the path to it where asked.  There is often the word 'localhost' already there, just replace it with the address given by your host.

you can't make up mySQL data, you will have to ask your webhost if you don't know this data. Make sure you actually have mySQL, it's part of the minimum requirements!

i do have it, i have all the databases made too, i jsut want to connect to the database from another server not the same one, thus localhost isnt what i need.

as I already told you: you will have to ask your webhost what hostname you could use (if any). Most webhosts disable the mySQl access from remte servers completely, so you can only access from the server your script is running on, using "localhost" as hostname. There are two reasons for this: they reduce the security risk of you site (and their server) getting hacked, and they stop users using mySQL on various domains who don't have a mySQL database of their own to share a remote database.
The bottomline is: ask your webhost!

P.S. Who is this "Major problem" you mentioned in the subject of your posting? Is he with "General Motors"? ;D. Please use a subject line next time that actually summarizes your problem. ;)

I have a very simmilar problem,

I have my website on my university's webspace, but the database was on www.portlandsql.co.uk because the uni doesn't have mysql.

but one day it stopped working (i assumed this was due to portlandsql, it doesn't seem as though they keep their servers working properly)

that was on the old coppermine, so i've decided to start from scratch with cpg1.3.2, but using www.freesql.org, but i get

Could not create a mySQL connection, please check the SQL values entered

MySQL error was : Lost connection to MySQL server during query

under mysql host i have www.freesql.org

any ideas what i'm doing wrong?

thanks
