Hello,

I am in the process of installing Coppermine and have my first question.  The installation tutorial shows unpacking the ZIP files into a directory of the local website.  If I create a folder and unzip everything here then the next time I publish my website this folder and all the Coppermine files will be uploaded as well.  Should the Coppermine folder on my local PC be part of my website or can I put it in a folder outside of the web folder?

Thanks!

What do you want the URL to look like to get to the gallery? Are you doing this on your local computer or making it available on the internet?

The gallery will be part of my website so it will need to be available via the Internet.  I had planned to follow the tutorial and use WS FTP to upload the files once I had everything unzipped.

Thanks

If you want the gallery to show up on the web, as a part of your website, you need to put the files in a subdirectory of your web folder.

OK, I read the tutorial again I realized I can accomplish the same thing by 1) creating a folder called Coppermine as a sub-folder of my website, 2) unzipping the files there while maintaining the file structure and 3) publishing my website using Frontpage.  The tutorial shows using FTP to "publish."  Sorry for the confusion.

Well, that didn't go well!!  Frontpage gave me errors about being out of space.  My explorer locked up from memory errors and I had to reboot.  I removed the Coppermine folder from both my local web and the webserver and republished to make sure my website was intact.  Perhaps the error was related to the MySql databases I set up.  Is there any reason to not use the Frontpage publish feature to upload the Coppermine files?  I have unlimited webspace so I doubt it is an issue with the webserver.

Thanks

FrontPage is a pain in the butt. It has so many issues that it's the only editor that has its own faq section at my webhost.

It would be better to use FTP to upload the coppermine files. However, I've heard that FP doesn't play nice with FTP if you use its HTTP method to publish.

I think one solution is to put your gallery in a subdomain: subdomain.yourdomain.com

Then use FTP to upload the cpg folder, keeping it separate from FP.

Hello and thanks for your help!  I ended up using FTP to upload the Coppermine folder.  Then, when I published using Frontpage again it wanted to reupload everything!  This time it did it without complaining.  So I assume I can move on to the next step which is to CHMOD certain folders.  I'm sure I'll be back tonight with more questions but I'll remember to post them in their own threads. :)
