I originally tried installing Coppermine as a port for pMachine, but found the whole thing pretty weird and buggy. In the end I turned back to the full script and installed it, but to cut down on confusion for users, I'm not allowing anyone to register for it (since they already have to register seperately to comment on the news areas and I don't want people to be able to add files either).

My problem is that I'm doubly unsure I like the e-card as it stands. I don't like sending images by mail, but I also wonder if spammers will take advantage of it somehow too.

Does anyone have a solution/hack? I'd love to have e-cards use a link to the message/content, rather than emailing it out as one idea.

I also have another problem where I can't delete old e-cards because my host runs PHP through CGI and that function is blocked out. Can anyone suggest how I might delete older messages another way? Or automatically clean them out after 30 days?

1) One question per thread
2) The file (pic) is not sent with the ecard
3) ecards are not stored in coppermine unless you explicitely enable the option to store them in coppermine's config. Go to config and disable the option again, then use phpMyAdmin or similar and empty the table yourCopperminePrefix_ecards (although I can't see the point: as there are no files being stored and the ecard log only being visible for the admin, there's no harm done, and no waste of webspace)
4) edit themes/yourtheme/theme.php, find// HTML template for e-cardsand edit the stuff after it to determine how the ecard looks. Keep it from embedding the image to turn the ecard into a notification only, like: go to yourdomain.com to see the actual pic.
