Hi

It seems this board is very slow since uprgading to SMF 1.1RC1.
It's for me difficult to surf between the differents posts, with sometimes "time out " issues.

Is there a connection betwenn this problem and SMF version upgrading?

I thought the slowdown was due to my connection or computer.  I've been cleaning out my registry, running every spyware and antivirus software I have. I was just about to call Roadrunner again.

Well, it's good to know it's not IN my computer and at least I'm virus free, for the time being.

The board is slow, because the whole website is. Our webhost is afraid that the queries caused by the board have an overall impact on the server stability, so they told me to do something about it. They set a "throttle" on the website, slowing it down on purpose. To reduce the query load, I upgraded to smf1.1rc1. So it's vice versa: not smf1.1rc1 makes the board slow, but the board is slow although it's on smf1.1rc1.
I'm trying to step on our webhost's toes to make them remove the "throttle" every day, yet they don't answer. I'll let you know if there are news.

If your host is going to give problems, may I donate space for the Coppermine site and forums on my server? It will handle it, no problem.

It's unlikely I'll ever know enought PHP to become part of the team, but I'd like to do something to support this wonderful program.

If this would help, PM me, and we'll talk about it.

It seems to me that the speed of the board has improved, although it's not back up to full speed. Haven't heard anything from our webhost though.

guys,

I appreciate that you're trying to alert us of possible issues, but in this case I'm well aware of the board's speed, as I access it several times a day. The reason are troubles with our webhost who blame us to burn to many cpu cycles on the box the board runs on, so we're under observation from them. Speed may improve or decrease at their will, no need to report again.

Thanks

Joachim

Maybe I'm asking the obvious question.. why not change to a webhost which knows how to deal with customers with active boards? Cost?

Joachim Müller

a move means extra work, I'm reluctant to do so. Our webhost has done well in the past. I don't think that we should move right now. And yeah, cost is an issue: in the past, we didn't have to raise funds at all, and I'd like to keep it that way.

ecto

Yeah, I totally understand, and agree, about the funding issue.
