Hi!
I need a way to increase google adsense relevance in coppermine!

I have 2 kinds of galleries, one with coppermine and one with pure html.
Pure html is very hard to manage but generates relevant ads and high ClickThroughRate = I make money
http://www.tripfoto.com/krakow/pictures/krakow/indexit.html

Coppermine is very easy to manage and has great features but generates not very relevant ads and low ClickThroughRate = I make no money at all
http://www.tripcentre.org/foto/thumbnails.php?album=22
The above links are both about Krakow pictures in Italian, so the content is the same.

I have been going through the forum btu can't really find how to make Coppermine work in this. If I can't find a solution I'll have to go back to Html, which I hate, but makes the effort worth. So far Coppermine is easy but gives no results.
Thanks!

Well, the PHP version takes forever to load. Maybe people give up and leave so they don't stick around to click on the ads. Are you self-hosted?

lucadg

No, I have an ordinary hosting and it is not slow normally.
But this is not the problem, I have the statistics in Adsense and people do see the pictures, the problem are the ads, they ARE NOT elevant in php. Relevancy has nothing to do with speed.

If relevancy is the issue, you don't have much content on the Coppermine page. There's only text under one of the thumbnails. The HTML version has descriptions under several thumbnails. You're comparing apples to oranges and your not putting content on the Coppermine page puts it at a disadvantage.

I screwed up the relevancy of my adsense ads by trying to place the code inside theme.php to have a little more control over placement instead of just template.html...and then almost all of the ads turned into php/mysql/web host ads....so DO NOT ever attempt putting the adsense code in theme.php...

I am still trying to get them back to normal...any tips would be cool...I am currently using this code to try to repair the damage I did to the relevancy of ads:

<!-- google_ad_section_start -->

<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

...but so far it hasn't really fixed it...and I tried contacting google a few times w/ no response...  :-X

Here is a new test
http://www.tripfoto.com/krakow/pictures/krakow/indexit.html
and
http://www.tripcentre.org/foto/thumbnails.php?album=22
in coppermine, full of descriptions, relevance is still very low (matchmaking and vacuum cleaner sites)
There must be a way to improve it...I will try it and let you know but the developers should consider giving some more support on this, as adsense is for most people the ONLY way to make money and adsense relevance is important for them to choose which system to use.
I will do my best to help by testing and trying.

Thanks

just to keep all informed.
I filled the php site wth descriptions and here the results:
- much more adsense relevance
- still a lotmore of "alternate ads" (the ones I can choose, which make no money but link to my sites or just show a color) than the html site
- Money in php (clicks): zero
- Mony in html: still good

I'll keep trying as I still prefer to use Coppermine!

if you are allowed to use mod_rewrite (on your apache server, if you use one) then you can upgrade your coppermine gallery to 1.4 and use their sef urls plugin...it will make the pages be read as .html while still using the php database...

that is what I did and it fixed the problems I created by messing with the ad placement  8)

That's a good tip. I'll check it out. I checked out your galleries but could not find the html version of coppermine. where is it?

there are some imperfections with the mod_rewrite though...and they do need to be worked out...but for the most part, it works just fine...

Hi  freesouljah
Nice site :)
I see many photographs ads which I consider relevant but not good for CTR (people dont click them as they are looking for the content of the pictures, not the pictures in itselves).
How do you judge the ads relevancy in html compared to php in your site?
And visibility has  increased?

Thanks!

the relevancy has gotten much closer to what I would want compared to the .php? pages....mainly because I went and fiddled with the code and screwed up, and that was how google was reading my pages...so I forced adsense to re-evaluate each page because the url changed...

for the most part I would rather see ads for photo related products than mysql database hosting, etc...I think if I went in and added more descriptions and titles for individual photos, then the ads would be even more relevent...

it is hard to judge the entire impact of the mod_rewrite, since it has only been a few weeks since the change...but I am happy with it...
