A member of my nuke-cp site came up with a interesting idea. An option of a thumbnail image of the members photo as their avatar. This could be a feature of the board integration version and the nuke version.
What do y'all think?

jack

The problem with that is twofold :

* Coppermine would have to have some way of knowing which picture to use as the avatar. How would a picture get chosen? last uploaded, just random, etc. etc. If the selection is manual, you haven't really gained anything.

* The pictures used/produced by Coppermine are usually photographs .. i.e. much larger than an avatar. As you would have to specially take/manipulate the photo to be suitable for an avatar, you are not gaining anything here.

I can't see the point .. or am I missing something?

You're right 50x50 is way too small for almost any pic.

With the coming (in CPG 1.2) absolute picture link one could add that to their signature. Then I'll suggest to my members links to their pics in their sig...

Any other ideas for incorporating members pictures with their postings?

at least for those who are using the cpg integration into their bbs, one could use the avatars already in use with the bbs - this'd require adjustment of the bridge files though.
As a result, the users would have the same avatar (if any) in coppermine as in the forum/board software you use?

the bridge file does not work optimal for ibf..

using avatars from bbs would be great! it should not be that difficult.

I'd be very interesting to hear how things stand at this point. I am very interested in a mod that would use the phpBB avatar in Coppermine...

roRisc

by no means... I'm only to your benefit posting this message.. :)

have you noticed that comments for pics RARELY go over 3 lines... or an Aataar of 50x50, would be around .... 4-5 lines...

my point: too much space wasted with avataars.

scenario: a discussion over one of your galleries photos that pictures a babe's ass... [or some incredible moments cought on camera] there would be 20 comments, each with one line as in "she's hot" the next "it's huge" next "wow"
etc...
just looks bad on a site :)

and I love neatly arranged pages btw.... so please make that a MOD :)

of course, for bbs the story is different, since ppl tend to write paragraphs and comprehansible sentence.. (like I'm trying here)

:) thanks
... I mean.. look at the next post :) big gray table with no content :)

roRisc

... and I like Avataars a lot :)

Joachim Müller

@roRisc: you're absolutely right - Avatars in comments would be overkill. If I understood this right, the avatars were meant to appear in the user's gallery and/or profile...
But anyway: if this feature will be included into coppermine distro, it will of course be admin settable.

...that is exactly what I'm looking for. The profile setup on my site is bridged to phpBB, but it would be really cool to have member avatars in a user's gallery..

Joachim Müller

please don't get this wrong: we're talking about possible future features of coppermine - nobody has coded one single line to make this work, it's just theoretical at the moment.

afaik nobody has worked on avatars so far. We're right busy with finalzing cpg1.3.0 right now. I guess you'll have to wait a little longer for avatars (since it won't be in cpg1.3.0)
