Album password, within category

I am very confused about the difference between the categories and albums. Is it not possible to make parent categories?

My real problem lies with passwording certain albums from public view, but I want these to be in a parent folder/category/album. Can whole categories not be given a password?

No, categories can't be given passwords. Only album can be password protected.

Category - It can have sub-categories and/or albums but no pictures/files
Album - It can have only pictures/files.
