Coppermine comes with a directory full of help files, located in cpg132/docs.  In order to improve those documents, we're asking for your help.  Take some time and read through them and make notes of the following (this is by no means an all-encompassing list; feel free to make note of anything you feel is a problem):

  • Confusing/misleading information
  • Missing information
  • How to improve the information

Respond to this post with the following information:

  • The file name, eg: index.htm.
  • The section of the document, eg: Section 2.
  • The information in question.
  • Your proposed change.
  • Benefits of your proposed change.

We will take every post under advisement, weigh the pros and cons, and make any necessary changes.

This is an important task - writing good documentation requires inputs from the end-users.

Help us help you.

Thank you.

Hi there:

Here's one I ran into. The config page docs, index.htm, sextion 4.10.7, where the "Allow image files" and friends are described, should say slash-separated, not comma-separated. Also mention that capitalisation is significant. This might also apply to the "Accepted file extensions" item above. Perhaps an example, e.g. jpg/JPG/gif/GIF/png/PNG might be helpful.

Thanks to GauGau for helping me solve his one!

Great stuff!

Thanks for the information.  I'll make sure the docs are changed.

under 4.3
"URI uploads only - The group may only upload files using URIs. Acceptable URIs must begin with 'http://' or 'ftp://'."

may it could be usefull to add a note that this will only work if fopen() is not disabled in php.ini.?
(many security-sites sugests to disable this function and there are a lot of ISP which have this disabled)

We need to change the on-line documentation.

3.4 Upgrading from cpg1.2.0rc2 or better to version cpg1.3.2

Should be

3.4 Upgrading from cpg1.2.0rc2 or better to version cpg1.3.3

The documentation included with the CPG download is correct. We just need to fix the online one.

I was reading the On-line FAQ   ;D  and noticed what I think is a duplicate question,  one is titled  How can I move albums from one category to another? the other is  How can I move an album from one category to another?

cheers,

Joachim Müller

you're right, fixed in cvs for devel and stable.

Here is a sample clarification to replace the section 2.3 in the Users Gude.

2.3 Using Windows XP Web Publishing Wizard with Coppermine

If you are using Windows XP, and if you are the Gallery Administrator or a user with rights to create your own albums,  you can use the built-in XP Web Publishing Wizard to create albums and upload automatically resized photos to the your Coppermine gallery.

2.3.1 Setup

Before you can use the XP Web Publishing Wizard, it needs to know the address of the your gallery.

  • Open your browser and type the following into the address box replacing "your_site.com" and "coppermine_dir" with your own Gallery address information :
           http://your_site.com/coppermine_dir/xp_publish.php
  • On "File Download - Security Warning" click "Save" to save the cpg_###.reg file on your Desktop. (The ### represents a 10-digit numerical timestamp.)
  • Open Windows Explorer
  • Select Desktop from the left panel
  • Double click on the file name that you just saved.
  • On Registry Editors "Are you sure..." challenge click "Yes".
Above procedure needs to be done only once by users wishing to use the XP Publishing Wizard.

2.3.1 Uploading pictures

The process of uploading pictures is a matter of following a simple dialog. It takes much longer to describe the process than do it.

  • Start Windows Explorer and locate the directory with your photographs and select one or more pictures for upload.
  • If the Windows Explorer left panel is not titled "Picture Tasks", click on the "X" in the top right corner of the panel to close it and to reveal the Picture Tasks panel.
  • Select "Publish xxxx to the Web" from "File and Folder Tasks" on the left panel. "xxxx" could say "this file, these files or this folder" depending on what is highlighted on the right panel.
  • On Web Publishing Wizard's Welcome screen click "Next".
  • You can change your selection if necessary on the Thumbnail window showing up. Click "Next" when you are ready.
  • From the service provider window highlight your Photo Gallery name and click "Next".
  • Enter your Coppermine username and password to login to your gallery and click "Next".
  • From the "Welcome username" window you have an option of uploading your picture(s) into one of the existing albums or starting a new album. Click "Next" when you are ready.
  • Click "Next" in the upload starting confirmation window.
  • Select the picture sizes for the uploaded pictures. If you are unsure about acceptable picture sizes, verify with your Gallery administrator. Click "Next" when you are ready.
  • You are presented with the last window of the dialog and given a choice of opening the Gallery when the upload is complete.
  • Click "Finish" to end the XP Web Publishing Wizard and to enter the Gallery to check the new album contents.

Thanks for your contrib, added the new section to the docs both in the stable and devel branch. Updated the online docs as well. Could you supply some screenshots as well (I don't have Windows XP)? Thanks in advance.
