My image gallery will have various groups of people from different websites registering.  Now what I would like to do is, upon registering, the user will select which website they associate with.  Essentially I want them to be able to pick which group they want to be in at the registration screen (obviously they shouldn't be able to pick the "administrators" or "banned" groups).

Another reason why I want to do this is because when you go to the Memberlist, you can sort members by groups.  With the  system I'm trying create, users will be able to easily see which people are from a certain website/group when they go to the Memberlist.

Is there any way to pull off what I'm trying to accomplish without having to manually put each user in the proper group?  I searched a bit but couldn't find anything relevant.

This has been requested only recently on the German support board - if you can understand German, read "Coppermine Gruppe Anlegen". Short summary of that thread: no, this is not possible without extreme hacking of coppermine's core code. Users can not choose which group the want to belong to. If you need such a hack, you'll have to code it or hire someone to code it for you.

Well maybe Coppermine isn't for me then, because that's a feature I really need.

Is something like this possible in Gallery from menalto.com or 4Images Gallery?

Ask menalto or 4images, I have no idea if that feature exists in their apps.
