cross-referencing capabilities?

Folks:

Suppose I have an album containing 100 images  whose filenames are "image001.jpg", "image002.jpg"... "image100.jpg".

Is there any way to cross reference some of these, so --say-- when someone sees "image035.jpg", he/she is led to look at "image092.jpg"?

The only way I can see would be to nab the url from the File Information for the second image, which might look like

       nottp://my.example.site/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-42

and  bbcode-speak in that link into the file description for the first image.   This link would work, but only until I changed the gallery by adding or deleting an image "before" the target.  The "pos=-42" part of the link is purely positional, right?

Is there a chance that of an alternative parameter, the target image filename, so I could use a link such as:

   nottp://my.example.site/gallery/displayimage.php?filen=image092.jpg

Putting the link in the file description would work, but only when the intermediate-sized version of the first image is on-screen.  Otherwise, though the link text is visible on the bottom line(s) of the text below the thumbnail.  Is there any way of making that an active link?   Unless the user can link through the thumbnail view, the method is a bit awkward.

Maybe there is some completely different mechanism that would serve this purpose.

In case you are wondering, what I'm trying to do is find a way of immediately connecting the front and back images of a particular paper photograph in a collection of 100's of photos that have been scanned haphazardly.  It would be nice if there was some system, like serialized imagewith odds= emulsion side, evens = paper side of original images, then the two would be adjacent by normal sorting order, but that's not going to happen.

TIA,

Henry

Addendum:  I improperly asked a second question in my first post, about how to enable links in thumbnail captions.  I hope I can un-ask the question by referencing the place where this issue is explained:

   http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=40541.0

which I found (d'oh) only after posting.  My apologies.

Oh, yes, I recently posted essentially the same question as above but I realized after posting that the subject line and the phrasing of the question were incomprehensible.  I'm hoping the current thread is off to a better start.

TIA,
Henry
