How do I Stop Spam Comments

I have coppermine on my website for my gallery.
At the moment I am getting a lot of Spam Comments being left on my gallery, which have no relevance to the subject matter.
I have changed the setting so you have to be a registered user to leave comments, but this didn't stopped it. I have now had to turn off the comments completely but I don't want this as part of the type of business I am in, comments are important.
I have also made it that I have to activate their registration, but how do I know if they are genuine users or not?
Can anyone help me with ideas on what I can do?

Since your new here are some pointers:
- Make sure to read the documentation
