Hello,

I was wondering if there was a way to make sure that the thumbnails created are all the same dimension regardless of the original image size or orientation.  I have thumbnail size set to 100 and max set to 100 - and I still get thumbnails of different dimensions.  What can I do? and how can I easily fix already upload thumbs?

Should I just download them and run them through batch in Photoshop?

Thanks,
Tobias

in coppermine config, take a look at the option "Use dimension ( width or height or Max aspect for thumbnail )*"! You can set it to "width", "height" or max aspect. Whatever settings you choose, these will only apply for the pics you add to coppermine from the moment you changed the config. If you want to change your existing thumbs, use the "resize pictures" utility from the admin menu.

P.S. Automatic cropping isn't in the current release of coppermine yet - if the dimensions of your uploaded pics vary, those of your thumbnails will vary as well. If you absolutely need them to be the same, you'll have to create the thumbnails manually on your local machine and upload/overwrite them on the server.

I want my thumbnails to all be the same size - Now I have posted this question before and Gaugau responded - I believe I followed his directions. . . but still no luck.

Here is what I did - Created my own thumbnails that were all the same size.  Uploaded and overwrote the original thumbs created by coppermine.  Back in the gallery instead of resizing the thumb it stayed same dimensions but the scale went all wacky (basically it was fitting my thumb into the dimensions of the old thumb.  I ran the resizing function in Coppermine but it seemed to just reset the thumbnails.

SO - what do you all do?  I mean the only thing I can think of is to make all my originals the same aspect ratio so when I upload the thumbs also are the same. .  but with 1400 pics online it is not an optimal solution.

Thanks,
Tobias

you were meant to change the way the thumbs are being created in coppermine config and then use the resize utility. Changing the thumbnail pics themselves won't do you any good, since the "old" thumb dimensions are stored in the db.

P.S. Merged your second posting with the original thread. In the future, when refering to a thread, use "reply" instead of starting a new thread

Gaugau- Thank you for merging those posts.  I think I was referring to the bit where you said

QuoteIf you absolutely need them to be the same, you'll have to create the thumbnails manually on your local machine and upload/overwrite them on the server.

I would very much like all my thumbs to have same dimensions - How can I go about this?  Is this something that will be in 1.3?

Thanks,
Tobias

well, what dimension should they be? You might come up with some pics in portrait format and some in landscape. The thumbs simply can't always have the same dimensions, unless you plan ahead and only upload pics with one orientation and size (as a result all thumbs will have the same dimensions too). There will, however, be a utitlity to crop or resize thumbs and/or pics in cpg1.3.0
