Hi everyone,

I'm still pretty new to coppermine, but already loving it :-)

I upgraded to version 1.2 now, but was looking for a feature (it must be there else it's kind of wierd I think) - you can setup if a album must only be viewed by e.g. a special group and that's all good, but I can't find the same feature for setting up who is allowed to view a specifik category, where do I do that ?

I can't see the point in having private albums if I can't put it in a private category?

protection is only there for albums (as the smallest "container" for pics), not for categories, because handling this would mean a lot of trouble: the permission settings of categories and albums could contradict. And imagine what happens if you move an album from one category to another.

Hi there,

Thx for your reply, I must say I can't see the points you are trying to point out for me. Of course there is some work in making this for category's as well but I can't see the use for the this feature when it's not on the toplevel?
- But maybe that's because I want to use coppermine in another way than most ppl. I'm a photographer and I like to show off my pictures on my website, but I like as well to be able to put some pictures on the site that only specific customers can see, but as I see it I can only do this now if I make a category that is visable by everyone and in that category I can make private albums which is all fine, but for everyone that is not a customer of mine it would look kind of odd with an empty category.

I can't see the implementation problems I must say, but maybe that's all because I'm still pretty new to coppermine.

For future implementation.. Why not "just" make it all categories or all albums and make it so it's possible to have categories in other categories (or albums in albums), so the user can choose how many sublevels he wants and then just make the "security" implementation for one level and everything should be fine. Security should always work from the top level and down then.

Thank you for a very nice "product" with a lot of time used.. keep it up

you already can create sub-categories...

I'll move this post from support to feature request, maybe Tarique is already working on this

Hi again,

Thx a lot for your quick reply's.

Well it roxx that you can create sub-cat's but as long as you can't setup security on categories it dosen't really help me in the way I want to use coppermine. (but we can't have it all, I'm very satisfied with coppermine a few missing things I can propbly hack me out of hehe)

Thx again, I hope to see this in a future rls :-)

@Gaugau - no I am not working on hiding categories. The permissions system is already crazy enough for Albums
