I seem to have come across a small problem, I have tried to back track and also upload a new index.php but to no avail.

Coppermine standalone version does not have a directory 'templates', so either you are using a cms version, or your problem is with a different application (unless for some strange reason you called you cpg directory 'templates'.
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here

I installed the script via Fantastico in cPanel, and the script is installed to a directory named templates.

Can you offer any further suggestions to rectifying this problem?

OK,
line 137 of the stable 1.3.0 index.php should read
if ($level == $CONFIG['subcat_level']) {

Try getting a new copy of the index.php from the stable branch of cvs and uploading it to your server.

My line 137 in index reads
'{MODIFY}' => $lang_album_admin_menu['modify'],

OK, this is some sort of misunderstanding: there are a lot of users who claim to have used "fantastico" to install coppermine. I have never tried fantastico myself, nor cpanel, but as I understand it the software is used to painlessly install open source software packages to your server (correct me if I'm wrong). For this, the fantastico builders had to re-package the original open source packages (and applying all sorts of "tweaks" to the package to make them work with fantastico in the first place). From my point of view, it's a good idea to have such a "package manager" on your webserver if you have no intention to find out details about a third party software, but there are drawbacks as well: the fantastico packages are not the most recent packages, and the tweaks they had to apply to it makes it impossible for us (the developers of the "original" package) to give full support, as the code base differs. Basically, there's only one advise: if you really need coppermine, don't use fantastico nor cpanel, but install it "the old fashioned way", or look for support on your webhost's site or the site or the fantastico homepage.

I have cpanel too, but installed compermine the old fashion way, not being that familiar with php at all, I followed the steps as per the install instructions, step by step and had no problems at all.  Even doing the upgrade to the current version 1.3.0  would suggested doing the same thing I did as suggested already to you.

I have to agree, cPanel - Fantastico is not installing the latest version of this script.  After a full install via ftp all seems to be working as you would expect it to be.  I would like to add that u2-web.com thanks the excellent support we have received over the past few days, and this script, forum and members are a credit to you all.
