I am looking for help with a Banner Advertisements for www.RetinaGallery.com

I would like to have a banner advertisement above the home page.  In addition, I would like to display a different banner advertisement over subsequent pages which varies based on the category.  Best would be if every page in a category - album and image pages, had the banner advertisement on top from that category.  I'm using the Curves theme with some minor modifications.  For example, I'd like to have a banner advertisement on every page in the macular degeneration category from a medication used to treat macular degeneration.  I'd like to have a banner advertisement on every page in the retinal detachment category from a company that sells surgical equipment used to fix retinal detachments.

I will probably use a standard 728 x 90 px advertisement on top of each page.  I might also consider 3 advertisments each 300 x 100 px.

It will probably be easiest to put the advertisement on the very top of the page, above the coppermine header.

Any help with this will be appreciated!

Thank you,

Steven Cohen

So you would like a banner on this page http://retinagallery.com/index.php?cat=3 and all the sub categories? and for all other categories?

This should be themeable but if you want to have specific ads in specific categories you'll have to do some work to keep it updated.

You can add the banner anywhere you want are you sure you want it at the very top?

Once you confirm i'll try and put together an edit, can you attach your custom theme.php as theme.php.txt.

Jeff,

Thank you in advance for your help.  I would like to have control over the possibility of putting a banner advertisement over any pages based on their category.  So all pages in a certain category would carry the same advertisement.

My plan is to sell a banner on the home page for a fair amount of money and then banners on the category pages for less.

I'm not positive where the best place for the banner is.  I'm new to this, and if you have an idea based on my theme I will be happy to take your advice.  I have attached my theme.php  file (renamed).

On the website for Retina Today, the banner is below the top menu and that looks pretty nice:
http://bmctoday.net/retinatoday/

On the website, Retina Physician, the banner is on the top (although at the moment it doesn't really have an advertisement on it):
http://www.retinalphysician.com/

One issue with the coppermine formatting, which I like is that the webpages have a fluid width.  The banner advertisements probably will not have a fluid width and will need to be centered.

A second problem for my specific site is that I have a different theme for Mobile devices installed.  I'll attach that too.  I'd like to somehow try to accomodate the mobile theme with an advertisement if I can.

In a perfect world, I'd like to have an advertisement plugin so I don't have to do too much modification when Coppermine is upgraded.

I appreciate any help you could offer.

Thanks,
Steven

I created a custom header that displays an ad wherever you place the {CUSTOM_HEADER} token.
If you don't like it I can create a theme edit for different placement of the ads. I'll only spend the time on a plugin if this solution doesn't work.

There are comments to help you figure it out but basically you just paste in the specific code for each catagory (if you have many categories this might be too difficult to maintain ie. the need for a plugin). The file will stay intact during upgrades as long as you don't delete it.
