I had Coppermine installed a very long time ago. I tried to go onto my site and this error appeared. My web hosting company says it's a Coppermine issue. Can someone help me get my website back up?

This is the error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ENCAPSED_AND_WHITESPACE, expecting T_STRING or T_VARIABLE or T_NUM_STRING in /home/rings3/public_html/coppermine/index.php on line 158

This is the message I received from my web hosting company (Lunarpages)
We have scanned your account and found its clean. The error in question is related to "
/home/rings3/public_html/coppermine/index.php" page code. Could you please ensure with your developer whether the page code is syntactically correct or not.

Why are you quoting yourself?

Please supply a link to your gallery so we can investigate.
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

My mistake (the quote) I was adding the link to my website with the error. The website is: www.ringsidephotos.com.

Sounds like your index.php file has been modified for some reason.  What version are you using? is it up to date.
Running SMF 2.1.4  / Tinyportal 3.0.1, bridged with Coppermine 1.6.25, plus cpmfetch 2.0.0

It has not been updated in a long time. I had someone who installed Coppermine and then maintained it for years, but is no longer able to help me. To get into the website, you need a password and login. I don't want to post it here.

Sorry but giving me login details won't help, as I won't be able to log in either.

I'm assuming you're running Coppermine 1.5.x as opposed to 1.4.x as you posted in the 1.5.x support board.  If that's the case you could try uploading a fresh copy of the index.php file. You'll need to do this via FTP or your servers file manager.

I apologize, but I'm not sure what version of Coppermine it is. I relied on someone who handled everything on my website. How would I reinstall that file?

lurkalot

Do you have server login details?  (please don't post them here).

Certainly sounds like index.php is corrupted...
login.php will load - and from the source code has a 'footprint' of 1.4.25.

As lurkalot said - access to the server (FTP or Control Panel) would be needed for one of us to verify.
If you are still running 1.4, you will want to upgrade.
Thanks!

He's using 1.4.23 - http://www.ringsidephotos.com/sql/update.sql

Visiting that file is always the best when trying to determine a CPG version. ;)

OK... so we know you are using a 1.4 release - so an upgrade is needed as well.
How much work that is depends on the level of customizations.

For a 'vanilla' environment, the basic instructions are at:
http://documentation.coppermine-gallery.net/en/upgrading.htm

For custom themes, that doc includes a link to a separate section on converting themes:
http://documentation.coppermine-gallery.net/en/theme_upgrade_14x-15x.htm

For plugins in use - assuming they are available for 1.5 as well, the conversion is simple... Unique plugins may require more effort.

And of course if any custom modifications were made to CPG code, those would have to be found and refitted.  I would typically do this by comparing the original release package files with the current files.  We seem to have at least one corrupted file (index.php) - unless you have a backup of it saved.

From your post, it seems you weren't the one installing and maintaining Coppermine.  We typically recommend doing the upgrade yourself to learn how - and be able to apply future upgrades. I would suggest creating a test copy of the gallery (if you don't already have one) and trying the upgrade there first.

There is a freelance board if you do want to request (paid) help to do so:
http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/board,30.0.html
(I have done this for others and would be willing to - I am traveling this week, but would be available starting monday.)
