Buddy list and favorite artist/images question

Using current version of CPG: 1.5.28

At one time there was the buddy list feature is it never coming back?

The favorite image/artist area:

I have been asked if there is a way to have this implemented so that when we have a favorite artist, we get an email sent telling us they have uploaded a new image. We have been trying to come up with ways to get members to not just go see but to also comment --- many do prefer to just look.

Right now the only favorite choice is for the image to be added NOT the artist.

Is there something that can be done now or is this something that a future version will have?

That was never a core feature of Coppermine. It was maybe added by Stramm's modpack for cpg1.4.x or a plugin like the Private Messaging System, which is also available for cpg1.5.x: http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,70696.0.html

I'm not sure if the plugin adds the buddy system, give it a try and report back.

I and my members would be thrilled to have just the add favorite artist and get an email notification when they upload a new image.

Took a look at this mod but it seems it is for an unbridged gallery and not quite what I need. It is for PM's, we need to have the ability to add a favorite artist not the image and then get an email notification the next time that artist uploads an image.

Is there any other mod with that capability for a bridged gallery...or will you be adding this feature to the next update?

It would have been something like stramm's old modpack that had this and the buddy system for the older 1.4 versions.

So what you're actually looking for is a mod/plugin, which let each user subscribe to other users, so they get an email if one (or more) of their subscribed users have uploaded new images, right?

Yes that is what was wanted but now I am thinking that we might be better off without the function....they already get loads of email notifications and I don't want to flood their inboxes.
But it might be something to add to future gallery updates for others to have if they should want it.

IMHO this shouldn't be a core feature, but could be achieved as plugin.
