I just installed a FRESH copy of 1.4.2 and I can't seem to change the language.
I read these posts:
http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=24408.0
http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=24342.0
http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=24075.0
but none of these contains an answer...
I have tried clearing cookies and cache and I have tried on multiple browsers.
I have tried switching to italian, italian2 and german and it always displays everything in english anyway...
Also everytime I go back to the CONFIG menu in admin mode the language selection drop down box is always on english.
The strange thing is that in the database, in the table cpg142_config, the row "lang" is actually set to italian or german, according to my selection but the dropdown in the admin pages is always on english and the gallery always displays everything in english...
Any suggestions?
During installation I chose to set the database prefix to cpg142_ instead of cpg140_ - could that have anything to do with it? That's the only "unusual" thing of my installation, everything else is staight up... 1.3.4 worked just fine with language selections.

You are right, I haven't, because in that post I was under the impression that that had to be done if one wanted different languages for the users of the gallery and the admin of the gallery, but I guess that it's a general fix that you will implement in the next bug fix release (along with that important file to be removed)? is that correct?

Well thanks for your help. I appreciate very much...

By the way, I was wondering if there are any changes in the themes files... I have my own theme (which I created by modifying the 1.3.5 default theme) and I just wanted reassurance that by using it I wasn't missing out on any important changes that took place in the default theme of 1.4.2...

Is there a change log one can check in new versions to see which files have changed???

Thanks.

Nibbler

There is theme upgrade guide in the new docs and online here. There will be a variation of that fix in the next release.

Same thing happens on my 1.4.2 install.  Config doesn't appear to be updating the lang option.  Will look into it.
Do not send me a private message unless I ask for one.  Make your post public so everyone can benefit.

There are no stupid questions

I haven't found, seen, heard anything new about this, so I guess that means nobody was able to pin the problem... I am afraid I'll have to go back to version 1.3.4...

besides, I was looking forward to version 1.4.x because I had read that there would be no distinction between admin and user mode, but I noticed that the two things still exist separately... right?

Found it!

After reading this post ([link]http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=24618.0[/link]) and commenting that line include('include/select_lang.inc.php');, the language switching now works... Is it safe to comment out that line (the line that includes the language selection include file)? or will this break something else or create some other unpleasant situation?

The next problem now seems that the italian version is completely screwed up...

The italian language file is crappy, also I can't see accents like à è ì ò ù. See this topic for reference: http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=24359.0

Zenigata, you asked three weeks ago in this thread how you could contribute. The answer is still what Nibbler gave you. Please see http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=20355.0. It says that there's an in-progress translation by Canelli and ganesh. My guess is that they are working on an upgrade for the italian language file. Maybe you could ask them and see what they are doing.
