I have created sub directories in the Album folder, uploaded all my photographs and when I attempt to FTP them into an album receive a message that I should set the permissions to 777, on checking I find they are set to 777, what am I doing that is not correct? Am able to upload individually.

Those folders are not writable. Us ftp program and right click folder and choose property. Then set to 777 for write privileges or similar
