New 1.4 installation has many folders for templates- sample files, examples etc. I have no clue which one of em to modify. I'm no php expert but have some experience. I messed with it for quite awhile and got very frustrated! Old Documentation for new release fails to indicate what folders to enter for modifications to template files! What is this, a puzzle or an application? This should be simple and I'm sure it is...at least to the developers. The confusing documentation keeps referring to an earlier version of Coppermine. No good. I can follow instructions but not those. The cofig root file for this thing looks like a vacant house...no occupants. I cannot figure out where to start editing to do the template modifications needed to make a template mod. I'd be happy to just be able to change from one to the other. Where do I look?

please visit ur site logged in as admin and then click on your "config" link from top admin menus which comes after u loggs in as a admin.

Then in ur config area:
find find "Themes settings" you will find a "Theme" option under themes settings.

Then in this drop down make sure which theme is set there.

Then go to your /gallerypath/thems/yourpresettheme folder and make changes and upload ur changes there.

if u installed coppermine gallery new one then default is Classic theme.

Good to know that admin does that edit...thank you. I found that by dragging the folder examples into the root folder, I could also do the template changes...which I did. The login menu disappeared though so now I cannot login to admin. This was supposed to be easy.

Now I just need to figure out where to go to change the "Coppermine" text that is defined in the html file by {GAL_NAME}. That's probably hidden in the ADMIN too? It's a puzzle, no it's an application...wait...it is both.

get the theme files out of the root; they don't belong there.

The only reason it works (sort of) is because of some depreciated functionality that was left there to help theme writers.

Do as the previous post by b4uphotos suggests and you will find it a lot easier.

even if documentation refers to an old version of coppermine, the response to the majority of the questions is there.
But here, http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm the Doc corresponds well to the last version of coppermine. Are you sure to have latest version ?
Avez vous lu la DOC ? la FAQ ? et cherché sur le forum avant de poster ?

Yep- just got it. Whipped by it tonight though. Your link looks like the same documentation that came with it. I'll read those instructions yet again.

It's rather like being from out of town and asking for directions and the locals always tell you that you can't miss it... It's easy...maybe it is after you've lived there awhile. It is hard to understand where the code has come from or the context that the instructions are written in for the template edits. It is important too, as the thing is no good with Coppermine written all over it. There's no images in the docs and it is a gallery designed for the artist...a tough one for the other weaker side of the brain.

What do you mean by saying that there is no image inside the docs? There's plenty of them.

You had a bad start with your first posting, so let's start from scratch: post a link to your coppermine-driven gallery for a start. We will then go onwards from there.

I'm doing a localhost Apache development.

I've seen lots of support already and am making headway after a night's sleep, coffee, and the reinstall. The instructions for template changes made more sense, thanks to b4uphotos' simple directions to use the config panel instead of messing with raw files. My end game is to make a jewelry store display, complete with a shopping cart- requested by a client...if it doesn't take too long for me to figure out. Thank you all for your time.
