Problem after upgrade

Before upgrading from 1.3 to the latest version I had this little hack that makes is a must that members must upload 3 photos to their albums before they can view larger photos but after upload that's not possible as everybody can now view larger pictures. I've searched the board but could not find the fix. I need help because this is urgent. thanks.

A link to the hack thread would be nice. Maybe it can be converted to 1.4.x usage ?
