I have a minor problem with my website and i hope to find a solution using this forum.
When someone is using a word with an 's, like foto's, it shows up as 's, like foto's, in my guestbook or when the contact page is used these characters also show up in the corresponding e-mail..
I did a search through the forum but did not find an item about such a problem.
Any tips on how to correct this?

You have deliberately and unnecessarily changed coppermine's encoding from utf-8 to iso8859-1, that's why this happens. Set it back to utf-8. You then have to convert the contentsfrom your database as well, as the contents are currently in iso8859-1; they will not be automatically converted when you change the encoding. That's why the docs say
Quote from: http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#admin_languageOnce you have added comments or files to your gallery, you should not change the character set of your gallery. If you do so, non-ASCII characters may display properly.

Neither the contact form nor the guestbook are core parts of coppermine, but user-contributed add-ons. You failed to refer to the mod or plugin in question, so what advice do you expect?

I am not aware that I have changed anything like you mentioned, certainly not deliberately.
The copermine language settings of my gallery are set to Unicode (recommended) (utf-8).

I would like to get advice how to correct this so my Contact form and gusetbook plugin will work normal in the near future.

Converting the contents inside your database from one encoding to the other is not trivial and beyond the scope of support, so don't expect to be spoon-fed on this issue. Instead, you can only expect general advice on this issue (if at all).
However, you haven't done as suggested: you have failed to post reference to the plugins/mods that you're having issues with, so even with my mind-reader hat on and staring intensively into my crystal ball I could not figure out a better answer than the one given above.

Joachim,

Thanks again for your responce.

The only info i can add is that in concerns the following plugins:
- contact_1_3
- guestbook

I really don't know why the content is converted from utf to iso.
The settings of my gallery are UTF and the language files are also utf.

I don't expect you to give me the complete solution, just give me a clue where i can find information to re-convert my database.

That doesn't make sense. Take a look at the page that summarizes all plugins for cpg1.4.x that we're aware of. For the last time: post reference to the plugins that you're using.

Joachim,

Guestbook:

http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,56398.0.html
http://www.proxy2.de/scripts.php

Both plugins / mods give the 's when a 's is used in the text field.

When I use a 's in other parts of my coppermine gallery it shows up as an 's, like in a picture title or picture discription or using MiniCMS, so no errors there.
I checked the language files of the contact and guestbook plugin / mod and they both show UTF settings.

Thanks again.

Harald

You're still using the iso8859-1 encoding on your site.
I guess that the plugin Contact: add new menu button to display a contact form with spam prevention and the mods you're using have not been written with iso8859-1 in mind, but only support utf-8. To figure that out, change the encoding and then use the plugin/mod. If the apostrophes show as expected, start converting the content of the database using the charsetmgr.

Joachim,

I believe my s/w programming / web building experience in not sufficient to solve this problem.
I think I just leave it like this or switch over to a other way to display my pictures on the www in the future.
Thanks for your patience and all the advice.
I think this thread can be closed.
