in the previous version we were able to search by username but not now.

how can I add the ability to search by username again

You should still be able to search as before, though it's "Owner name" not username.  Is this missing from your search form?
Running SMF 2.1.4  / Tinyportal 3.0.1, bridged with Coppermine 1.6.25, plus cpmfetch 2.0.0
