Hi again, GauGau!

Like you recommended me I went for CHMOD Tutorials through Google. At this URL http://www.zachjorgensen.net/za/chmodtutor.html, I learned that using WS_FTP (or alike) I should right click the File/Folder I wanted to CHMOD and then choose CHMOD... I couldn't find that, but by choosing properties I got to the CHMOD configuration of the folders "albums" and "include". I don't know if that's normal, but they were both already set to 755. Actually all folders in my "gallery" directory were set to CHMOD 755!...

Although these folders seem to be set to CHMOD 755, I noticed that the files inside them were all set to CHMOD 644.

Is this normal? Does this mean that my server is setting CHMOD correctly by default? Should I leave it as it is?? Or should I also change all the files inside these 2 folders, from CHMOD 644 to CHMOD 755??
... And how do I know if CHMOD should be set to 755, or 777 in these 2 folders?

I've seen tutorials with CHMOD settings by numbers, others by text...Am I missing something here?.. ???

Miguel.

that's why I sent you away to take a look at the tutorials: they explain pretty well how to CHMOD - better than I could do right now. Please understand that we can - generally speaking - only provide support that is directly related to coppermine; general questions on how to run your own website (and that includes knowledge about CHMOD) can't be given by us, it would even consume more time than we already have to spend supporting users.
If you haven't understood the relation between the numbers (e.g. 755) and the letters (e.g. rwxr-xr-x) then you should look a bit more into the tutorials, or check another one.
Do not trust what your FTP app's properties: they often can't read them properly. Set them enyway, even if they seem to be correct when looking at the properties.

I understand that you already spend a lot of time supporting coppermine users, and of course I wouldn't dream of asking you to explain me how to deal with issues related with my website management, like CHMOD commands... And in fact I did understand the relation between numbers and text, in CHMOD.
I only needed to know what I am aiming at...

Is it only the directories (Albums and Include) that need to be set to 755, or is it also all the files inside these directories?

I also see the 755 CHMOD settings in the files Manager of my Control Pannel... Would you believ these are reliable?

Thank you for your time, once again!

Miguel.

You will have to CHMOD all folders within albums (this is a must). If you have already pics/files inside your albums folder, they should be writable for the script as well in case you want to remove them at some later stage. If you get along better with the control panel your webhost provides, go ahead and use it. This is just a matter of taste; it's more likely that the tools your webhost offers will work.
