I am currently using he latest version CPG and I would like to know how to add image discriptions on the side of thumbnails. I hope I am asking this correctly.

OK Now that you sent me to an area that said didly squat And reminded eveyome you are the only one who knows about php programming maybe you can lets us dummies know where we can find someone who is willing to help.

If you looked around, there has been a lot help provided to grateful people. Developers/supporters wouldn't do this if we didn't like to help people.

However, we hate repeating ourselves, especially when people can find the answer by searching.

We don't get paid to do this and this isn't the only thing we do in our lives. You don't pay for the software. Imagine trying to contact the developers of the paid software you use.

Why don't you try to answer questions and see how much time you want to spend repeating yourself? You're not the center of the universe.

I have tried to find an answer and the only one I keep coming up with is mine.

Maybe and just maybe if the instructions were a little clearer you might not have to repeat yourself so often

The difference between you fellows and the support people at paid software is there head size --- it's not as big as their waist.

Before you even consider dualing about life you should first consider who you are speaking to. I am probably 2 times your age or more and I have forgotten more about helping people then you will ever know. Want to talk about repeating? Try raising 4 daughters and now I am repeating myself again with 8 grandchildren, oh and yes I have been through two wars as well.

Again all I asked was how do I format the thumb nails to display the category discription to the right side of the image. Now if the right person with the right attitude can answer me intelligently without a lecture I would appreciate it

Thank you in advance

Customizing isn't easy, but the link Joachim supplied you with was more than enough to do some straight HTML encoding to do what you want.  You have to also understand basic HTML coding conventions, like the fact you can't put text next to a picture, it goes above or below it, unless you use some CSS techniques, or you use a <table> that makes two cells, one with a picture and one with a caption.

You need to edit theme.php, find $template_thumbnail_view, and wrap a table around the picture and caption.

<table><tr><td><a href="{LINK_TGT}">{THUMB}</a></td><td>
{CAPTION}</td></tr></table>

You'll also have to adjust how many columns of thumbnails are displayed on the page, from your config page.

You started the flame war by basically saying Joachim is a prick.  I don't give two shits how old you are, your attitude is completely out of line.  My father, who was a veteran of three wars, a few police actions, had kids and grandkids, and who could be a mean son of a bitch, never displayed the kind of attitude you have here.

You want to run a gallery website, but you either don't know PHP and/or HTML, or you haven't bothered to take some time to learn it.  This is open source software, and if you want to modify it, you'll have to learn some basic coding skills to do so, or pay someone to do it for you.  Or, you can find another gallery application.  Any way you cut it, I don't care.  But don't come in here badmouthing my friends who have done a lot for the open source community.

Do not send me a private message unless I ask for one.  Make your post public so everyone can benefit.

Your response strated out very well. It was something I started to relate to... But then you got to where you accuse me of calling someone a prick after that the rest of your response went right into the crapper. I can not beleive I started out asking a very simple question and it turned into this. If anyone had given a response half as good as the first part of yours I would have been satisfied.
I'm sorry I got involved with this....

Sometimes I ask myself why I do all this here, why do I spend countless unpaid hours on a project that is meant to help others, but then I realize it's charming people like Mr McLaughlin I do this for, as I prefer to be shouted at for simply no reason. Is this how you live your life in the real world as well? You must be a very frustrated person, but my recommendation to you is not to use the anonymity of the web to be mean to people you wouldn't dare to treat like that if you met them in "real life", as such an attitude won't get you anywhere - not even on the internet. You better start paying for psychotherapy, as we seem to be tha place for many things, but certainly not for free medical treatment.

I will leave this thread as-is (on other boards, it'd just get removed and you would get a ban), but lock it to prevent further flames. If you should decide to flame on another thread, you'll get banned.
