Hello,

I just got started using the cpg, and I happen to have banned myself...

How can I undo that now since I can no longer access to my administrator mode?

Thanks for your help already
Natalie

moorey

Dare I ask how and why?
Nah.. log onto phpMyAdmin, it's at cpg11d_banned..

Thank you my problem is now solved!

I still want to know how and why you banned yourself?  It's interesting that you are actually allowed to do that.

IP banning is a silly feature (hey, no offense, Jack!) that has been requested a lot, so it was done. To make this foolproof would mean making it unusable. There are so many ways a fool can ban himself, you can't rule them all out.
If you want, you can apply the most basic rules yourself (simple if-constructs in php will do) by not allowing to ban 127.0.0.1, localhost, 192.168.*.* etc.
This won't help a thing though: some fools banned whole network segements (and shared them with the banned target IP), or banned their dns or whatever important resource there is.

actually, the first time I banned myself was when I tried to test the banning system... Just to see what the banned user would see..... I guess many people would do that before they banned someone.

It's actually quite easy to ban yourself... It doesn't even have to have anything to do with IPs. You ban a test account, and then try to login using the test account... and voila.. You could say curiosity banned the cat.  :D

So... not everyone who bans himself is a fool...

hehe, that's why I said "IP banning" . Real fools ban dynamic IP addresses and wonder why some unwanted users keep turning up
Sure, those who know how things work can fix it pretty easy, as the banning removal is easy if you know what you're doing as well.
