I saw a patch that seems to be for PHP 5.0. I've recently upgraded to 5.0 but my Coppermine gallery is working fine, aside from one quirk with e-cards.

I downloaded the files and looked to see any indicator of whether this patch/upgrade was necessary but there isn't a clear path for my situation, where I think I simply need to install the patch. But I can't tell that from the documenation provided. In fact, there is the "patch" and there is what appears to be a full Coppermine install package but little documentation about what to do if you already have PHP 5.xx installed and your Coppermine install is working fairly well.

I'm actually hoping there is some improvement with the patch, helping Coppermine run even faster.

What is this package for? Is it necessary? What changes does it bring? What is needed to implement the patch (how do I do it?)?

Thanks!!!

It's for using mysqli if you are refering to the mod I am thinking of. If you wish to use mysqli then use it, if you do not then stay as you are.

mistertynes

I'm using MySQL. I actually had that updated recently as well.

I'm not sure, but I thought this update might change the 1.32 PHP code to make it play better with PHP 5.xx installations.

The file I'm talking about is cpg1-1.3.x_PHP5_mysqli.zip

I can't find anything in it that says it does what I suggest above. And the patch is just the patch file with no instruction on what it will do, what it is for or how to "patch" it in there.

Any ideas??

It would improve performance on PHP5, but probably not to any noticable degree.

A patch file is used to update files and is used with the unix 'patch' command.

Nibbler, thanks so much for your quick response on this. Let me ask you two final questions, well three (one sub question).

Do you think it is worth it to install the patch? The thread you linked to is not very explicit either, suggesting mostly a naming convention improvement or some such and improvements to improved MySQL, which I'm not using. The speed, if there is any improvement at all, would be a nice thing, however. (Sub-question) Can you school me a bit on installing the patch? I've not touched Unix since college in the late 1980s, early 90s.

Second question: Do you think this patch will fix a wierd bug where my e-cards are sent but I'm given a message saying "Sorry but the server can't send your e-card... "?? I know that's a bit off topic (don't crucify me) but I'm searching for a fix and wondered if they might be related.

Thanks again!

Nibbler

If your gallery is working fine and you have no need for mysqli then just wait for the next version, which has some of these changes anyway. I've no idea if the mod even works. I doubt it would be related to the ecard issue.

mistertynes

Okay. I actually got the e-card issue resolved with your tip on another thread so no worries there. I'll hold off on the patch. That thread made it look a tad shady.

Any idea when the new version will be released or what changes might be in store?

I'd love to see some type of RSS integration so that the creation of a Flickr style badge could be concocted. Though I'm a Flickr member, I really think Coppermine is this shizno. If RSS could get implemented to allow that kind of remote promtion and maybe tags, watch out.
