can not open install.php

Hello,

I am having  a problem trying to install. I try to open the install.php file in my browser and I get a error.

error opening install.php

the browser opens a dialog and asks what program I want to use to open the file. If I select firefox the dialog opens again.

I am using ubuntu linux.
I allready installed apache2, php4, mysql, imagemagick
I tried to open this install file from my windows pc and from linux.
I used IE and firefox.
File permissions are 777 for

please help.

it seems that your server is not configured to actually parse PHP files, so my guess is that PHP is not installed. Create a file named "test.php" with this in it:

Upload it to your server and run it in your browser. If it doesn't display "Hello world", but gives you the same message you get when running install.php, you definitely haven't set up your server properly to run php files. In this case, you should look for help on sites that deal with server setup (i.e. apache-related stuff).

I installed php using apt-get. I guess it does not automatically install itself into apache

no, it doesn't. You might want to get a full LAMP package if you have issues setting up PHP with apache. There are install docs for php available as well: http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.unix.apache2.php - you have to "tell" apache that PHP is there.
