error resizing using admin tools

Hi,

   I really want to resize my intermediate photos, but I go to  "Admin Tools", chose "Update thumbs and/or resized photos" and get a screenfull of "ERROR creating:$normal" messages.  I turned debug on and tried it again.   Would really appreciate any help you can give!
