I have installed coppermine 1.3.4 on cpanel using fantastico, but it doesn't look like their demo (looks very plain, there is not even register link). What should I do to make it look like demo?

Sorry, but we have no idea what their demo looks like.  But we do know this.  A search through our forum confirms that the fantastico install of coppermine is somewhat buggy.  You need to login using your email address as your password.  You also need to set user settings in the Config settings of the Admin menu to show the register link.  But most importantly, you should update your Fantastico setup with a fresh 1.35 copy from here.

asking for coppermine support on the "Photography Tips and Tricks" board that clearly says "no support for coppermine-related stuff here" is not a good idea at all. Moving this thread accordingly.

LOL I did it again!!    But installing coppermine with fantastico doesn't qualify as a trick?  ;D

I also installed using Fantastico but cannot login. Tried the suggestion of using the email name as the password - no help. Tried email name for user and password still get error cannot log in try again error. Of course I tried the admin user name and password and cannot get in.

Any suggestions?

Recommended solution: don't use fantastico, but the package we provide. Fantastico sucks imo.

Check the username and password in cpg_users table in your coppermine database. Use phpMyAdmin to do so. Login with this username and password.

Sorry am late to the game---just got our internet service back up after Katrina.  Anyway, I need to upgrade to the latest (non-beta) version of Coppermine, but I'm a bit overwhelmed.  No heavy mods on my gallery, but I'm SO lost as to what to upload--how---where.   ???   :-\\

I'm rather an idiot when it comes to this gallery tech stuff, so I would appreciate anyone who may have some "dummies" advice for me on how to do this.  I'm upgrading, btw, not doing a clean install.

Oh, and by "heavy mods" (and this sounds stupid) do you mean lots of albums and photos, or modifications to the config files, layout, etc. etc.?   :-\\  I also have Fantastico, but I know better (from experience, unfortunately) than to try and upgrade from there! lol

Thanks in advance.   :)

"Heavy mods" would imply coding changes in many of the php files.  If you are using a "special" theme, you may want to rename that theme's folder prior to upgrading, just to preserve it until you can verify that everything is working the way you want it to.

Basically upgrading between updates of the same version 1.3x :  1.30 ... 1.31 ... 1.32 ... 1.33 ... 1.34 ... 1.35 is pretty painless.   Back up your CPG/Include/config.php file.  Copy all the files of the update into the appropriate folders of your website installation except for cpg/include/config.inc.php.  (If you accidently got carried away and overwrote this file, this is where the backup comes in handy.)

Run CPG and check "Target address for the 'See more pictures' link in e-cards" path  for accuracy in the CONFIG panel of coppermine.  While you are at it, check all other settings there as well.

Thank you SO much, Dennis!  :)  Now I do have a question about something odd that happened overnight to my gallery:  I haven't done any upgrading at all yet (waited to read responses to this post) and I went to the gallery to look around... and graphics aren't showing, not even the ones for the skin!   ???  Only the names of the images show... and, I have other galleries on my other sites---those are all fine.

Can you (or anyone) look around and tell me if my gallery was hacked or what may be going on?   :-\\  Not sure about doing the upgrade until I know what's what with the gallery.

Any advice on this would be most welcome.   :\'(

Also, with regards to the config file:  there isn't a config.php file in the include folder, only a config.inc.php

Thanks in advance.

Your gallery looks fine from my end.
Try again. If it still doesn't look right to you, try hitting CTRL + F5 to force a reload.

And, you're right.  It is config.inc.php.   Just an ole slip of the thumb, again.

there's some sort of hotlinkprotection enabled on your server that may cause this. Funny one.. just have a look at your sig. The image doesn't get served. If you call it directly ... nope. If you call the sigs folder first and then you call the image (means having visited the box before requesting an image) it works.

It's a nice way to protect images as well as movies. Has been mainly done to protect movies cause htaccess doesn't work there just costs a few bucks. When it came out 2 years ago I think it was 300 bucks. Now only ~60-70. Put's a lil bit heat on the box if there's high traffic but usually works smooth. Just in case someone is interested in it...

Well, you know, I just found out what it was: windows firewall!  I had Zonealarm pro trial version and it blocked ALL images everywhere no matter what I did.  So I shut it off and used WFW and that blocked even more.  Go figure.  :-\\

I'll take a look at my hotlink protection and see what's up with that.

So the config.inc.php is the file I backup and overwrite with the new version?

Backup.. don't overwrite it, unless you accidently overwrite the original during the install process.  ;)

The installation folder should not include config.inc.php. It gets created during the installation process. So there shouldn't be a problem of the file being overwritten by the upgrade process. However, it's good to backup the file just in case something else goes wrong... like a nuked folder or whatever.
