I'm a Coppermine newbie.  Which file do I edit to encrypt the password to solve this problem.  I also upgraded from 1.3.2 to 1.4.2 and reset the factory defaults and cannot log in.

Joachim Müller

may be an unrelated issue - you probably have used Fantastico to do the upgrade (which is a bad idea, as Fantastico is buggy and the Fantastico devs don't update their package even though they have been notified weeks ago). Upgrade to the most recent stable cpg1.4.3 (available from the download section at the top of this page) and do as suggested in the upgrade docs - this should solve your issues.

Hussein

GauGau, I appreciate your help.  I just finished the upgrade, but I can't log in.  The Coppermine Gallery is up and running using 1.4.3 (stable).   But there is no change.  Any suggestions?

Hussein

Here is another question.  If I do a fresh install using Fantastico, would it remove all existing user's images?  Or would it just repair the files that are not permitting to log in?

Nibbler

We don't know what fantastico will do, don't use it. The issue is with the database, not files. Use phpmyadmin to set encrypted passwords to off in the prefix_config table in the database you installed Coppermine into.

Hussein

Nibbler, thanks for your assistance.  It worked.  This was my first time making any modifications in phpMyAdmin.  I really appreciate your help.

But now that I am logged in, I don't have Administrator rights.

I set admin_activation to "1", but it doesn't log me in as admin.

I opened the table, cpg_users.  I checked to make sure that I am in user group "1".  I am an active user and listed in the database, but I cannot log in as administrator.

Joachim Müller

admin powers are determined by group membership. In coppermine's users table, set the group for your user to "1" using phpMyAdmin.
"admin_activation" is not related, set it back to "0"

Hussein

I set admin_activation back to '0'.  I verified that I am in group 1.  I also noticed that when I login, I don't get any link to logout, so I don't think that I'm really logged in at all.

Nibbler

Take a look at the prefix_groups table, are there groups in it ?

Hussein

There are four user groups: 1. Administrator, 2. Registered, 3. Anonymous, 4. Banned

Hussein

The problem that I'm having now is that after I login, I get a "Welcome Hussein", "continue" message.  When I click continue, I am transferred to the main page where I have the option to log in.  Essentially, the login page is not logging me in.

I just created a test username to login:

username: testing
password: testing

there is no cookie being set, which indicates that there is output before the header data are being sent. It appears to me that you have edited your coppermine files (at least your theme's template.html file) with a WYSIWYG editor, or that you have uploaded it using an app that is not a "good" FTP app. Note that even some withe space (spaces or empty lines) can cause this. A possible culprit could be MS Frontpage - if you used it, then you have found the fault. Additionally, you have cpg1.4.2, while the most recent version is cpg1.4.3.
Here's my suggestion: download a vanilla copy of cpg1.4.3 (download link at top of this page), unzip it, perform an upgrade as suggested in the docs (using a proper FTP app). Don't edit any files, just upload as suggested in the docs.

Hussein

GauGau, I really appreciate all of your help.

I downloaded 1.4.3 and went through the procedure of updating, according to the documentation, using WS_FTP.  I don't know if that would be classified as "good".

The templates are restored, but the same problem exists.

Joachim Müller

You're still running cpg1.4.2, you haven't upgraded as suggested.

Hussein

I downloaded CPG1.4.3 and uploaded all files, as mentioned in the documentation.  It should be running 1.4.3.  Is there something I did incorrectly?

Nibbler

Your files are still 1.4.2 versions. Make sure you actually uploaded all the files over your old ones. Use the versioncheck.php

Joachim Müller

Yes: you haven't updated everything as suggested. Use versioncheck to verify what files you need to update. Re-read the upgrade section of the docs.

I followed the documentation each time.  I resolved the version issue.   When I check the source page and scroll to the bottom, it indicates that I am running 1.4.3 (stable) but I am still having the same issues.
