What I sugest for later versions is have the category manager only show the main category not the sub categories unless you expand the main category to show it like in the config settings it would be less work for it to read the database since it would not have to read that part of the database until you went to expand that category it would not screw up when you went over a certian amout of categories like it does for me I had to delete a fewcategories so the bottom half would show correctly so i could add new categories if you could  cad this it would help out alot of ppl i have read a few post with ptoblems simular to mine and it would help us out alot if you made this sugestion come into reality.
