Can anyone please help me, please?  I did an upgrade from 1.4.4 to 1.4.8 and for some reason I can't find my pictures.  I have been working on this for the past two days to see if I did something wrong and have gotten to the point that I don't know what else to do.  I am sooo lost and am looking for some guidance.  My gallery address is http://hnoproductions.com/photogallery/.  Thanks in advance!

Did you copy your albums folder (with all its subfolders & files) back into the gallery?

What is wierd is that I go to the User Manager in Coppermine and it tells me that my Space Used is 269356 KBs.  Then I go to the File Manager for my site, and I can't find my pictures.

The "space used" in the user manager doesn't actually check the files.  It only adds up the filesizes of the picture entries in the database table.  So your database still has all the file information in it, your actual files are just not accessible.

What I meant by copying your albums folder was that if you upgraded by creating a new folder for 1.4.8, you would have to copy your albums folder from your previous version to this new folder.

If you copied the 1.4.8 files into your previous version, your albums folder would already be there.

As far as I can tell on your site, the albums folder is basically empty.  That's why I assumed you created a new folder for the upgrade.  Check using FTP to see what's in your albums folder.  For example, based on one of your pics I clicked on, you should have a albums/userpics/10004 folder with files in it.

Coppermine would not have deleted your albums subfolders or files.  The upgrade documentation says to copy the 1.4.8 files onto your Coppermine folder, except for the albums folder, anycontent.php and include/config.inc.php.  Even if you forgot and included the albums folder in your copying, it would not have deleted your files.

In the albums directory all I have is two more directories, edit and userpics, and a file which is an index.php.  Other than that, there is nothing else there.

Ok, so there's the problem.  The albums folder has been misplaced or deleted.

As I said, I cannot think of any way Coppermine could delete files or folders during an upgrade.  The update.php script only modified the database.  The files are replaced by you, and there is no way to delete while doing this unless you do it explicitly.  Even during Coppermine's operation, you can only delete files & folders by clicking the delete button on each photo or album.  Since your albums are still present, this is certainly not what happened.

Did you delete your previous version before upgrading?

Did you create a new folder for the new version and thus have another folder with your previous version (where your photos exist in its albums folder)?

Honestly, when the upgrade was done it was not done by me.  My hosting company did the upgrade, they must have messed it up or something.  I will go ahead and see if they can restore my files, if not, I guess I will start from scratch.  Thanks for all your help and for the great application.

Do you mean using a panel like Fantastico?  If so, you are recommended to avoid using that.  (Other threads discuss this.)

Doing upgrades yourself is fairly simple.  You just need FTP access, which you should have for uploading photos anyhow.  The documentation (linked above) and on your Coppermine admin toolbar has a detailed upgrade section.

You are also recommended to do backups every once in a while of your database and files.  If you had such a backup, you could merely upload the albums folder and your gallery would be up & running since everything else is set.

Thanks for all your help!  I got the issue resolved.  When the upgrade was done with my hosting company, all the pictures got deleted.  I will now be doing backups of all my picture files.  Thanks again!
