Seems like you try to use a theme designed for cpg1.3.x on a cpg1.4.x gallery. Update your custom theme as suggested in the docs.
In the future, please post on the proper board and use a better subject.

I am really sorry for not posting in the right area! It's my first time here... I am still feeling quite stuck with this problem. I have had this theme for years now and I dont even remember what it was called as I have edited it so much to make it my own! Is there an easy way of finding out which one it is? Will the theme have an update for the new coppermine version? I am so confused. Thank you for helping me.

Update your custom theme as suggested in the docs.
Why don't you start by doing as suggested. For your ease of use, here's the direct link to the section that explains how to update your custom theme: http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/theme/
