I can't get into to admin anymore! My menu doesn't show???

When I log in, my admin menu doesn't show up. If I try to go directly to admin.php it says "you are not authorized to view this page. What happened? 
It worked fine a little while ago and then I tried it again and it didn't work. I removed the program and reinstalled it and it
still didn't work, then it started to work, now it's gone again. By work I mean the admin menu shows. I am so frustrated. :-\

You appear to be running cpg1.4.2, most recent version currently is cpg1.4.9 -> upgrade! Don't use auto-installers. If your login doesn't stick, try clearing your cookies.

I'm having the same problem on my new installation of 1.4.9.  When I first created the site I was able to use my account as an admin.  Now when I log in, it does not recognize me as an admin. and I don't get the admin menu.  I have checked the sql tables to make user my account is in user_group 1 (admin).

I dug around some more and learned this can be caused by cookies.  I cleared my cookies and the problem went away.  Kind of a pain but it worked for me.
