I'm little lost here... but i'm pretty scared of upgrading...will the pictures be gone after the upgrade or will it not... So i need help with it...could you tell me what version I have by looking?

Use Mysql admin toolslike phpmyadmin or the one on your hosting control panel

And how do I backup files?

With a ftp client download them to your local computer
Or create a copy on your server somewhere else out of gallery folder

If you don't have phpMyAdmin available already, you might want to go for mySqlDumper: it's easier to set up and handle for newbies and avoids issues with larger dumps.

We recommend using FileZilla as FTP app.
