Hi. I am new here and this is the first time I am using CPG. I am running a fansite and was looking for a software I could use to maintain a photo and video gallery. And a friend of mine recommended me to use this script. I just finished installing it and somewhat made myself comfortable using it. Anyways, I have a question regarding linking to videos from other sites instead of uploading them. Is it possible to link to videos uploaded on video/file upload sites like, zippyvideos, justupit, putfile, etc?

NaifA,

There is a mod to embed YouTube videos:

I'm not sure that will help you since you didn't specifically mention YouTube.

No eruss, thats not what I am looking for. I already read about that mod before I made this post. But the mod/hack I am looking for is similar to this one. I just want to place links to videos available for download on other sites like the ones I already listed in my first post and other sites like megashare, rapidshare etc.

Coppermine doesn't support remote storage.

Ok but I am not sure if you guys have understood my question. I do not want to stream the videos hosted on other file storage sites. I just want to place links. Suppose there is a video http://www.example.com/somevideo, I want to place a link to that URL in my video albums. So whenever a person clicks on that link, he'll be redirected to the site that hosts the video.. And from there he can choose to either download or stream the video, or whatever the options offered over there are.

I can't see the difference between

and

Imo what you're trying to accomplish is storing links to files stored on other servers that are not under your control. That is what we call "remote storage". It is not supported by Coppermine. You're free to add links to some description fields using bbcode or by editing your theme. Handling those links using the database coppermine uses to store the paths to files is not supported. That's it.

I am also interested in something similar to what NaifA is asking.

I am fairly new and started integrating copper mine at video-tutorials.com

I have searched my Host (godaddy) and then called then them, the largest files I can upload by default to a shared plan, is 2MB.  They say there is a way to change it to 8MB, but they won't tell me how???  They guy said it would be through the php.ini file, but they don't officially support it.

So, back to NaifA.  I think he was on the right track.  I would like to be able to link to videos on other sites, that are larger than my max that will be set in the Admin.  All the videos at my site are created by others and I'm including a custom field that will let them put their website URL in anyway.

So call it whatever, but it would be nice to show the video without having to upload it to my server.  Say, video xyz is 20MB's.  Can't I show that on my coppermine page without storing it on my server, by just using the URL to the file?  Seems simple enough.  Maybe a check box on the upload page that asks the user the file size, and if the user wants to link to just link the file, or upload.

Maybe this is completely way off in left field, but seeing that coppermine is heading into a Multimedia Gallery direction, some advanced options for video might want to be given even more thought.

This would also great for a site like mine to save on bandwidth.  The bandwidth demand I'm potentially looking at is going to be huge if all the files are stored locally.  Am I understanding this correctly, all the files are uploaded into the coppermine database?

Thanks,

Aric

As suggested, remote storage is not supported. There's no use in requesting this once more - it has been discussed in the past often enough. Use FTP-uploads plus batch-add to upload larger files, and go for another webhost if your current one doesn't allow you to host the files that you need to see hosted. Webspace is so cheap these days...
Anyway, no point in trying to hijack a thread. Closing & locking.
