Hi, I'm hosted on a FreeBSD server, but i talked with the host and he dont even really know FreeBSD so he can't install Imagemagick or GD...he also said the server is running in text mode, is that something blocking me from installing the programs I need ? Could someone give me the way to find a binary or whatever that works on FreeBSD, and tell me step-by-step, how to install it ?

Can be the solution with root acess (ill send it to the admin) or simply with a shell access ( i can buy one ) or without any of these 2 (would be the best)....

Thanx A Million...

shell access might be enough to install ImageMagick, but usually this is done by the admin. What kind of hosting company are you with if the admin claims not to know his OS? Surely, the server itself runs in text mode for better performance - most lunix webservers do. The most recent (and recommended) versions of php have GD-support built-in, so I suggest you tell your admin to simply install a recent package of PHP.
For installing any software, your so-called "admin" should read the instructions that come with the software packages.

It's a host for Game server like Counter-strike and the website of the clans...but I know the guy and his prices are really low, that's why i'm with this host! I just sent a message to the admin asking him to update php to get GD...If that does'nt work, what else can I do now ?

Thanx,

you could ask for shell access and try to install ImageMagick (although I wouldn't recommend that neither to you nor your admin).

Other options: if you can't have GD nor ImageMagick, you may want to take a look at gallery.menalto - they let you have a similar gallery with NetPBM (which you should be able to install by yourself as non-admin). If it has to be coppermine for you, you could start with reading the ImageMagick docs: http://imagemagick.org/www/QuickStart.html - maybe you could talk your server admin into taking the plunge and install ImageMagick for you.

Thanx for the replys... I also tried Gallery Menalto before, but in the setup configuration, the gallery did'nt automaticly found netbmp or IM...and not working neither when i put the link to the folder manually...Is there something special i need to do to install netpbm properly ?

Thanx

wrong board: I just recommended the product coppermine most often gets compared to (you could say our "competitor", but there's no real competition in open source development imo), but you can't expect to get support setting up menalto gallery here on coppermine support board
There have been users here on the board who complained that gallery was too complicated to set up, but maybe over at menalto they have people complaining about coppermine as well...

I guess if you don't manage to set up one decent image library on your server, you'll have to go for a gallery script with less requirements. There are tons out there, take a look at http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=547

Sorry if this is not the answer you were looking for...

Ok thanx, anyway it works fine with Netpbm on Menalto now..but i preffered Coppermine in a couple of features...maybe on my next host i'll put it back!

Now i just need some support for some skinning probleme but you can't help me and I understand, so thanx for everything, and good luck with your project !
