I searched for this but i did not find anything that satisfied my question sorry if i am asking something answered somewhere
1.4.12 (stable) This is what i am using ...well ...with some minor safety modifications and i would like to use SEF url's but i read it's not very safe...i have a LOT of images and a big db ...11272 images to be more exact is applying this add on dangerous or something ?

Joachim Müller

In the first place it's dangerous to run an outdated gallery. Most recent stable release currently is cpg1.4.14, so you better upgrade asap.

sharif_aly

Yes , but where is the add on SEF URLS ?

Joachim Müller

Stop spreading your SEF_URLs related questions all over the forum. I already answered your identical question in another thread.

Infernal

My gallery has no permissions for anyone does not allow anything and my login.php is always in another folder when i do not need it
my gallery is decently secured
i do not allow uploads or comments or absolutely anything

i will upgrade when i have time tho
anyways is using those search engine friendly url patch safe ?
i mean will it fill my site with errors ?

Nibbler

It's not 'dangerous'. It's just unsupported, which means if you come back and say 'it doesn't work' then we will just say 'uninstall it then'.

Infernal

yes that's the question
if it doesn't work then i end up with a f-ed up db ?
did any of you ever try it for a 12000 pics album ?

sorry for bothering just gathering some info

sharif_aly

12000 , no i didn't as for me but for folder on server has this number or maybe more the folder became hard to access via ftp ..

Nibbler

It doesn't affect the database at all and the number of pics you have is not relevant.

Infernal

so all it does is make a folder with a lot of files in it all.html that each take the information out of my database each time they egt opened instead of using a query string it will only take information without generating the whole page

please tell me if i get this right

PS there is no problem with that folder and the ftp i will not use it at all

Nibbler

No, that's wrong. All it does is rewrite the link format to give the illusion of individual html pages.

Infernal

mhm so practically it's a database change ?
mimicry ?
if i save the db and this goes wrong i replace it and it works ?

sorry for bugging you my site is getting over 1000 uniques a day and  can't rick going down

Nibbler

I already told you it doesn't affect the database. If you get an error when you install then you just delete the .htaccess file it created.

Infernal

and that is really the only thing that can go wrong ?

am very sorry for asking so many times i am sorry this is the last time i ask it
i almost understood everything

and i will return the favor i am working on a "Send this Image via Im to yahoo aol msn etc.." thing
