You are using stone age version of coppermine (1.3.2) !!!
First of all upgrade to most recent version 1.4.16 it's mandatory

Gee thanks.   The version I am using now works just fine for my client.   How hard is the upgrade?

Not hard, if you follow the upgrade steps as described in the docs.
