Hello, I've got 2 digital cameras of different brand, and they both support audio. (It is possible to record a sound associated to the picture).
I was just wondering how difficuld would be to "publish" these files using Coppermine.
The idea would be to provide a audio button when in display mode (1 single big picture per page), or even beetter to play tha audio in backgraund when the picture is shown.

What do you think?

(the auto conversion between WAV and mp3 would be the cherry on the top of the cake! -D)

There's a mod that let's you add multimedia files to coppermine 1.2.1, see http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=862
Coppermine 1.3.0 (which is still under beta testing) will have built-in multimedia-support.

Yes, coppermine now supports multimedia, abnd this is a great functionality, but how to have a pictue playing the "memo sound" background one the image is shown?
As I wrote many month ago, many digital cameras nowadays have a memo sound functionality, so it make sense to me play this sound (if recorded) when the picture is displayed.

What do you think?

what's a "memo sound"? Is this some additional audio commentary recorded with a picture? What file format is it?

What he means is just what he says. A lot of digital camera's offer the option to add a memo sound to a picture.

For example I take a picture of a Range Rover (my dream) and then I can add a memo sound which says "Car of my dreams" when you look at that picture.

So the idea really is to add a option in CPG that allows you to attach a sound file to a picture. So that when you look up the picture in the gallery you can
have a play button with the picture that plays the attached audio file.

k, thanks for explaining. Would need rather complex modifications both to code and db structure. Not very high on my priority list. User submission (mod) would be welcome though.

Thanks Hein, that's exaclty what I meant.
Of course, play "Car of my dreams" it's one of the possibility, but
let's think about a picture of a concert, how nice would it be to
play in background and sample of 10 or 20 second of the music?
Or again, the picture of a bird and a sound of his noise
Or many many other applications...

Somebody may ask, so why not take a video directly?

Well there are many answer to this:
- Some camera is able to capture sounds but not video ( some old model like my Epson  :D)
- A picture is not a movie! Otherwhise I would have bought a videocamera rathar than a photocamera
- The size on the memory card it's a lot smaller

I hope other users agreed with this.
If any developer out there is interested in write few lines of code...

Thanks

Keep in mind, should someone code something, that copyright issues have to be kept in mind. There is a certain amount of time that can be played when talking about sounds bites from concert for example. Might be usefull to code it in such a way that only up to 1 minute can be played.

We support AVI WMV and other multimedia files and do not impose limits. I don't think people would appreciate that kind of imposition. I recorded audio and video from my friends' wedding and it was 3 minutes long for each file. There's no way to know if a file is a copyrighted recording.

It's enough for us to worry about people respecting our copyright. However, the site owner (and possibly its web host) is responsible for not infringing on others' copyrights. IMO, we can't be copyright police for other copyright holders, especially if it hurts legitimate use.

RS232

Copyright is an issues also for pictures.
I think coppermine shouldn´t care about the content published.
Would you accuse coppermine if somebody use it to publish porn galleries?

kegobeer

Isn't that what Trans said?
