It seemed to me and not only me that "SMTP Username / SMTP Password" for "SMTP Host" in "Config -> Email settings" doesn't work.

In other words if we set "SMTP Host"
without "SMTP Username / SMTP Password" we are able to send emails
with "SMTP Username / SMTP Password" we a NOT able to send emails

I have a user reported this to me.
Then I also made some test on my two servers with different email providers by sending an ecard.

Was not able to get any message to test email.

Can some one confirm or not that filed "SMTP Username / SMTP Password" does or doesn't work.

Thanks

Nibbler

If the SMTP server requires a username and password then you enter them. If it doesn't require authentication then you don't.

I am speaking about SMTP servers which requires a username and password.

I said that authentification in Coppermine for such servers doesn't work.

So I am asking here if some one have some hosts with authentification for SMTP servers and if that one works for them?!

Joachim Müller

SMTP authentification works on my Windows-driven testbed with IIS or apache as webserver in an active directory environment - specifying the hostname of the exchange server as smtp host does the trick. The same thing works when running a crude SMTP hack using blat on the local machine of the testbed.
Keep in mind that we can not support you in issues related to SMTP setup on your server. We provide core functionality. Interaction of coppermine with third-party SMTP servers is none of our business.
Your report is invalid - just saying "doesn't work" is just nonsense and doesn't help at all. If you want to file a valid bug report, make sure to provide the needed details (logs, communication parameters etc.).
