What settings do I need to adjust to stop Coppermine from distorting the thumbnail and intermediate images. These images should keep their original aspect ratio regardless of a max height. How can I make this happen?

Coppermine doesn't distort those images. It respects the aspect ratio of the original. If it's the case for you that coppermine "misbehaves", this is related to your edits or your mis-use of coppermine. Since we can't say what you did, we can hardly advise. You should however upgrade, as you're running behind in version count by 6 versions.
I randomly picked one image:

http://www.dogmacollection.com/gallery/albums/gallery_images/The%20Land%20War%20the%20%20Soldiers/ArchiveII_0041.jpg (800 x 950)

As you can see, the aspect ratio is preserved perfectly. The only thing that comes to mind is your use of spaces in folder names and your use of capitalization of file and folder names, which is not a bright thing to do, but unrelated to the preservation of aspect ratios.
If you think that there acctually are distorted aspect ratios, post a deep link to at least one of them and we'll look into the details.
Tada.

Yes, I hope and believe you to be correct... unfortunately I'm an outsider coming into the system to troubleshoot... but it appears that graphic designer has distorted the images and not coppermine.

thanks for the quick response.
