First of all many thanks for this great work... I am a total newbie with it but learning fast!!

Just one issue that is driving me nuts though is I carnt get the uri/url to add pictures... The upload works a treat, I just keep getting errors when trying to link from other sites... Am I missing a setting or something stupid.... Thanks in advance for any help!! ;)

It is probably a server issue. Certain settings need to be correct for that feature to work particularly this.

allow_url_fopen

Also, please read the board rules. There are many of them but they are there fo a reason. In your case you should have read the following sections of the manual and used the search facility. It would have save us and you time.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

I do have allow_url_fopen set to On

Do I also need allow_url_include set to on as well ?

allow_url_fopen   On   On
allow_url_include   Off

Please do everything suggested in my final link.

URL uploads suck anyway, I wouldn't bother if I were you. You may think that URI uploads safe webspace: that's not the case. The feature is not (as you suggest in your subject) actually a  URL linking feature (and nobody ever said it was). External (remote) storage is not supported by coppermine.
Using URI uploads you just safe the effort do download the file from that URI to your harddrive and then uploading the file again to your webspace within your coppermine gallery, so just think of it as a shortcut. The file you upload will be transfered to your webspace no matter what, so there's no actual benefit in that feature. It will be removed from coppermine in the next version anyway. As I suggested: if regular http uploads work as expected, use that. For advanced admin uploading, use FTP uploads plus batch-add as suggested in the docs.
If you must get URI uploads working, don't ask us, but your webhost. It's a webserver setting and not something we could help you with.

Many Thanks Guys..

I use other servers as bittorent boxes with all kinds of images on them, so I thought it would be easier to link rather than down them and re upload to them to my domain space... Ok I'll first of all get onto UK2 my server host..to see why I can not use this feature. But as you say it isn't the be all and end all.. The normal upload feature works a treat..

Thanks again for your help!!
