Hi guys,

Not sure if it just me but after using a mod for phpbb (gallery) and went back to coppermine for a look, I feel that there not as much control when it comes to permissions.

Is there any plans to add more permissions?

Thank-you :)

What exactly are you looking for?

This isn't my topic but I second this. I, for example, would like to choose admins per category. I don't want all admins to have the control over everything, just about certain categories.

During the development of cpg1.5.x something called "moderator mode" had been added, but needed to be dropped as it wasn't clear how it was supposed to work. At a later date I assume it should enable "moderators" to control certain areas of the gallery (approve pictures, edit title/description/keywords, probably even delete files).

This topic seems to go to a similar direction, but it again isn't clear what exactly is needed. In your opinion, which permissions should an "admin per category" have?

gmc

I'll add my 2 cents... :)  Building on your list. Some of this is probably doable today in some way.

'Moderator' per category should be able to:

  • create albums in category
  • batch add files to albums in category (assuming ftp access to get the files there...)
  • edit title/description/keywords
  • approve pictures
  • delete pictures

They should NOT be able to

  • Do any of the above on categories they are not 'Moderator' for (obviously)
  • have access to view/change config options, plugins, etc...

Others feel free to add...
Maintaining a gallery for a club/organization, I'd like others to be able to upload and add files without having them scattered throughout userpics folders... and without being able to affect other areas of the gallery.
And often adding quantities that batch add is more suited for.
Thanks!

Maintaining category moderators should be done via the category manager, like it's implemented for the cpg1.5.x feature "Group(s) allowed to create albums in this category".

Additional to the category moderator, do you think we should global moderators (like it was probably planned for cpg1.5.x)? The same should apply to the above mentioned cpg1.5.x feature. This option is probably best placed at the groups manager.

gmc

I could see the need for the role of Global Moderator...
Separation of System Admin (install/configuration) from Moderation (content) is always good to me (my IT background showing...)

Of course the same person could (and often would) do both in smaller galleries - but for larger - or organization related where a division is desired, nice to be able to provide that support if desired.
Thanks!

Do we not just need more selectable items that each group can do with the possibility to add more groups and items as we go. Any group can be given permissions for any item in our list, much as SMF, Joomla, Wordpress etc do it. For future proofing the permissions system some packages allow plugins to add permission items. For instance a plugin could be added for voting which will be able to add an item to the permissions table so only selected groups can vote. We can then to make things more granular add a selector in the album manager to each album can belong to one or more groups inheriting its permissions from whichever groups it is in.
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

I absolutly agree with gmc. I especially miss the batch-add feature in the group settings. I know why it isn't there but I think the admin should be able to decide for themselfes if the moderators would use it the right way etc.

Any news about moderators? It should be VERY useful for my galleries...

We would have to wait for version 1.6 as no new features can be added to 1.5. Currently there is no release date in the near future for 1.6
